چکیده

Firefighting activities regarding buildings normally require electric power to be disconnected before a water jet is used, in order to minimize the risk of electrocution. As for as concerns Photovoltaic Systems, during a fire event it is not possible to turn off the whole power system in order to guarantee that all the components are de-energized. The object of this paper is to estimate the safe distances to respect during firefighting involving PV Systems. To this end a series of experimental tests have been performed, in order to measure the current flowing through the water stream, under different conditions of nozzle design, jet shape, water pressure and stream length. Experimental results have been compared with data in literature. Moreover, the electrical conductivity of the water streams, which actually consists of water mixed with air, has been evaluated. & 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An integrated model for multi-period fuel management and fire suppression preparedness planning in forests (Appreciated as the best paper of 14th International Industrial Engineering Conference)

Wildfires are of the forest-related disasters caused by inhumane factors.  Spreading of these fires is due to the increase of the density of flammable plants. Two important approaches to prevent this occurrence are fuel treatment and fire suppression resources preparedness. In this paper, a mixed integer programming model is proposed based on the covering location and assignment problems which ...

تعیین ریسک حریق با رویکردی مهندسی و ارائه استراتژی های کاربردی جهت حفاظت در برابر حریق

Background and aims:  From the 70s onwards, safety engineering made significant progress in developing techniques and regulations relating to the fire. The first, this methods was considered after happening accidents to prevent similar accidents. But with the advancement of technology, the prediction and prevention of fire in complex industries such as power plant finds Important. This study is...

Assessing Risks to Multiple Resources Affected by Wildfire and Forest Management Using an Integrated Probabilistic Framework

The tradeoffs that surround forest management are inherently complex, often involving multiple temporal and spatial scales. For example, conflicts may result when fuel treatments are designed to mediate long-term fuel hazards, but activities could impair sensitive aquatic habitat or degrade wildlife habitat in the short term. This complexity makes it hard for managers to describe and communicat...

Experimental Studies on the Flammability and Fire Hazards of Photovoltaic Modules

Many of the photovoltaic (PV) systems on buildings are of sufficiently high voltages, with potential to cause or promote fires. However, research about photovoltaic fires is insufficient. This paper focuses on the flammability and fire hazards of photovoltaic modules. Bench-scale experiments based on polycrystalline silicon PV modules have been conducted using a cone calorimeter. Several parame...

Impacts of Fire-Suppression Activities on Natural Communities

The ecological impacts of wildland fire-suppression activities can be significant and may surpass the impacts of the fire itself. A recent paradigm shift from fire control to fire management has resulted in increased attention to minimizing the negative effects of suppression. While the philosophy behind minimumimpact suppression tactics has provided a good first step in this direction, increas...
